For those of you waiting to upgrade your Apple displays, your wait is officially over. Apple has finally begun taking orders for its new 24-inch LED-backlit Cinema Display. The new display is available through Apple’s online store and is expected to ship within 7-10 days of ordering.

The new LED-backlit display is chalk full of features including an integrated MagSafe charger, three USB 2.0 ports and the new Mini DisplayPort. This feature will allow users to easily tether their notebooks to the display without the use of the notebook’s charger; a feature that is sure to make a lot of notebook users very happy. The 24-inch widescreen display has a 1920 x 1200 pixel ration and an “instant-on” feature that makes this the most energy efficient display yet. And if all that wasn’t enough, the display has a built in iSight camera, microphone and speakers for video conferencing!
One caveat that some consumers are concerned about are “glossy screens” on this display (as well as Apple’s current MacBooks and MacBook Pros). However, after seeing this in the store, I really don’t think it’s going to be that big of a deal. If you have some control over the lighting in your working environment, you shouldn’t have much trouble with the viewing angles. However, if you work in a particularly bright environment or have a large window directly behind you, you could experience the mirroring effect.
The new 24-inch displays are currently selling in the Apple online store for $899, however, MacMall is taking pre-orders now and has cut their price to $879.
