Product round-up for today’s Apple event

Well, today’s the day for Apple’s scheduled media event and we couldn’t be more excited! The long awaited MacBook and MacBook Pro refresh is only a couple hours away and rumors and speculation are still coming down the pipeline. Here’s what we know:

MacBook

According to Gruber (who was the first to accurately predict the October 14th announcement date), Apple will be revealing two new MacBook models today. The configurations will be:

  • MacBook 2.0 GHz, 2GB memory, 160GB hard drive for $1,299
  • MacBook 2.4 GHz, 2GB memory, 250GB hard drive for $1,499 - $1,599

There is also confirmation that leads us to believe that the MacBooks will share a similar aluminum casing and “buttonless trackpad” as it’s big brother, the MacBook Pro. There have been reports that the MacBook will be slightly different, but the latest information indicates otherwise.

MacBook Pro

There wasn’t much information on this machine up until yesterday, but boy have the floodgates opened! There are now confirmed spy shots of the upcoming 15″ MBP that show significant product detail (below). Below is a list of details, mostly confirmed, about the new MacBook Pro.

  • Aluminum casing with a glass display that’s framed by a black bezel
  • The MBP will reportedly feature two NVIDIA graphics cards
  • There will be no new 17″ MacBook Pro immediately available, and it’s unclear when/if it will be revised. The existing 17″ model will still remain on sale but with increased storage/RAM options.
  • Pricing will range anywhere from $1,999 for the 15″ up to $2,799 for the 17″

New Cinema Display?

Rumors of an $899 MacBook are starting to dissipate, and instead, we’re hearing of a brand new 24″ Cinema Display that could crash the party later this afternoon. No one has confirmed this latest rumor, however, several sites are reporting that the product K29 is in fact a display and not the low-end MacBook. The displays, which may or may not be announced today, are said to “resemble the existing aluminum iMacs without the “chin” of aluminum, featuring a thinner version of the iMac’s stand and black bezel”.

That about does it for the rumor round-up, now we just need to sit back patiently (yeah, right!) and watch the event unfold. You can catch “live”, aggregated coverage from Ars Technica and Gizmodo on AppleInsider’s page. The video of the event will no doubt be available to watch and download later this afternoon/evening. We’re excited, we can’t wait!
