New details emerge about Apple’s “Brick”

There has been a lot of speculation about the upcoming Apple announcement set to take place next Tuesday, October 14th. Although it’s widely accepted that we will see updates to both the MacBook and MacBook Pro, there has been one rumor floating around that, until now, has been a bit mysterious. That’s right, we’re talking about the elusive “Brick”. However, 9to5Mac is now claiming that the “Brick” is actually a “block of high-quality, aircraft grade aluminum” that will totally revolutionize Apple’s manufacturing process. In fact, they’re saying that this could be one of the biggest Apple innovations in a decade!

As if we didn’t need more fuel to the rumor fire, Peter Oppenheimer said during a recent earnings call that this innovation would be something that “Apple’s competitors won’t be able to match” for a while. Up until now, the MacBook manufacturing process has been outsourced to Chinese or Taiwanese manufacturers such as Foxconn. But if this rumor holds true, this would give Apple control of production and could lead to some cutting edge manufacturing and product design that would allow for cheaper prices and more rapid prototyping.

There is still a lot of speculation out there about this process and Steve Jobs will no doubt have a fantastic time addressing these questions if the rumor pans out. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long to find out what’s up Apple’s sleeve…is it next Tuesday yet??
