The wait is over! Apple has unveiled updates to their extremely popular iPod music device line that includes new (and extremely colorful) 4th generation iPod Nano’s as well as a slimmer, more user-friendly 2nd generation iPod Touch.

iPod Nano
The 4th-gen iPod Nano, dubbed “nano-chromatic”, sports a thinned-out new look as well as a ton of great new features that will surely set this audio device even further ahead of it’s competition. The beautiful 2-inch LCD display is the perfect way to show off the new built in accelerometer that puts the Nano in either portrait or landscape mode—which will definitely come in handy when you’re browsing you albums in Cover Flow, watching a movie, or playing one of the Nano-specific games that will be available from the iTunes Store. The new Nano comes in both an 8GB model ($149) and a 16GB model ($199) and is available in 8 glorious colors. And oh yeah, you can shake the Nano to shuffle the songs! How cool is that?

iPod Touch
As if the new Nano design wasn’t enough, Apple also premiered the next-gen iPod Touch which sports a sleek new design that’s even thinner than the current iPhone 3G. The new iPod Touch will ship with the forth-coming iPhone 2.1 software update (due out this Friday) as well as see a price drop on the 8GB model. Some of the new features of the iPod Touch include a built-in speaker for “casual listening”, longer battery life than it’s predecessor, and Nike + iPod capabilities out of the box (just bring your own iPod Sensor). The 8GB model is now available for $229 with the 16GB and 32GB devices selling for $299 and $399, respectively.
One thing’s for sure, these aggressive new updates should assure another incredible holiday sales season for Apple. We can’t wait to get our hands on these new products. Now if they would only update the MacBooks and MacBook Pros in time for the holidays we’d be set!
If you want to know more, check out the “Steve-note” on Apple’s site. It’s available in both standard and high-definition and the performance by Jack Johnson at the end of the event is great.
