Copy & Paste for the iPhone—but not from Apple

OpenClip.org

Why cut and paste on the iPhone isn’t a high priority for Apple is beyond us. Since it’s inception, users have been baffled by their inability to perform this seemingly simple task and still rank it as one of the biggest missing pieces of the iPhone OS. But fear not faithful readers, an open source solution may be well on it’s way to solving this problem!

The Open Clip project has come up with a simple, workable, and supported method for storing selected copy within an area of the iPhone’s memory that is accessible by other applications using their Open Clip framework. And we’re not the only ones who are excited about this latest iPhone enhancement. Developers such as Dial Zero, Wordpress, Twittelator, and Cocktail are already on board and plan to support the solution in their future app releases. We’re sure that unless Apple comes up with an “official” copy and paste methodology, iPhone developers are going to be keeping a sharp eye on the adaptation and improvements made by Open Clip in the weeks and months to come.
