Stream your iTunes library straight to your iPhone over any network

We just caught wind of a fantastic new app to hit the App Store today from the fine folks at Simply Media. The self-titled app allows you to listen to your iTunes music library from anywhere over wi-fi, EDGE, or 3G networks. How awesome is that?

We downloaded the application and have been testing it around town with various wi-fi hotspots and even on the dreaded EDGE network. So far we’ve been really impressed with Simply Media’s ability to buffer tracks (even over less than ideal networks) and offer a seamless listening experience. We were bowled over with the consistency and experienced no lag time or time outs.

Here are some of the great features of Simply Media:

  • Easy setup; no router configuration
  • Stream your music over WiFi, EDGE and 3G
  • Navigate fast by artist, album and genre
  • Connect with up to 30 friends
  • See cover art, artist bios, and lyrics

With all of these great features, there are still a few drawbacks. For one, it appears that you will be unable to stream DRM encoded files with the app since Apple has seen to it that your iTunes DRM music lives in audio jail. Also, you are required to install additional software to your computer to successfully stream to your iPhone.

All in all, this is one of the more clever apps in the App Store and we look forward to the improvements to come. However, if you like the sound of this app, don’t waste time. They’re only offering this app for free to the first 10,000 downloaders so make sure you snag your copy ASAP. For a more detailed view of the app in action, check out the video below.
