In what seems like one of the longest running rumors of 2008, MacRumors is reporting that we could see new Apple cinema displays at this year’s MacWorld San Francisco. The line of cinema displays has not seen a significant upgrade since the summer of 2004; a product line that is long overdue for a complete overhaul. With Apple’s new commitment to producing greener products, it is surprising that the monitors have not received more attention up to this point.
However, the main transitional limitation for Apple is the cost of LED displays. While LED displays as large as 30″ are available to consumers now, they’re certainly not cheap. For instance, the cost of Samsung’s 30″ LED display priced at $4735. Ouch. The current line of cinema displays have also seen a significant price drop over the course of the past couple years.
Apple currently sells the 20″, 23″ and 30″ monitors at $599, $899, and $1799, respectively. You can also check out their line of refurbished monitors where 20″ cinema displays are now on sale for $499. Get ‘em while they’re hot!
