Back-to-school promo could include a free iPod Touch

There has been a lot of speculation on the internet about Apple’s upcoming back-to-school promotion this year. According to MacRumors, this year’s could be their biggest promo ever.

According to their sources, Apple will be offering a free 8GB iPod Touch ($299) to college students who buy a qualifying Mac during the promotion which will run from June 3rd to September 15th, 2008. This aggressive promo strategy should give Apple an even larger reach when they announce the second version of the Touch OS X operating system for iPhone and Touch. By offering the Touch as a promotional incentive, developers can now expect to have an even larger audience for their apps and games once the new software hits the airwaves. It is, however, still an unknown whether Touch owners will have to shell out $20 (again) when they want to upgrade their device to the 2.0 Touch OS X software.
