Apple Unveils iTunes U

Apple announced an a new innovative section to iTunes today, titled iTunes U; a dedicated area within the iTunes Store featuring free content such as course lectures, language lessons, lab demonstrations, sports highlights and campus tours provided by top US colleges and universities.

iTunes U provides an easy way for users to extend learning, explore educational interested, and to stay informed with individual school happenings. “iTunes U makes it easy for anyone to access amazing educational material from many of the country’s most respected colleges and universities. Education is a lifelong pursuit and we’re please to give everyone the ability to download lectures, speeches and other academic content for free,” said Apple’s vice president of iTunes, Eddy Cue.

Not only are students and Apple Inc. excited about this new feature, but colleges and universities are thrilled as well. “iTunes U provides a creative way to engage millions of people with our teaching, learning, and research and share the experience of intellectual exploration and discovery that defines our university,” said Stanford Provost John Etchemendy.

Content from iTunes U can be downloaded just like music, with one click that allows users to access it on-the-go, 24 hours a day.
