New ‘Get a Mac’ Ads

Apple posted three new television advertisements to its website yesterday, all of which star its signature actors, Justin Long and John Hodgman, portraying a Mac and a PC. Two of three new ads focus on frustrations that customers are having with the new Windows Vista operating system.

The first commercial, titled “Choose a Vista”, shows PC spinning a colored wheel to determine which version of Windows Vista he should purchase, hinting that customers are having a hard time figuring out which is the right fit for their PC. Mac then explains to PC that one of the good about Mac OS X is that it only comes in one version and comes with everything you need.

In the second ad, dubbed “Genius”, Mac introduces PC to a technical support member, a Mac Genius, who can answer any of your questions and fix your problems at any Apple retailer. The support member is referred to as a genius because when PC asks her how much does he loath Mac on a 0 to 10 scale, she stated the correct answer, 11, immediately. Needless to say, PC was impressed.

The third and final ad, “Party is Over”, shows PC at a party with other PC’s gathered around a flashing neon “Vista” sign celebrating the much anticipated release of the new operating system. Amidst the celebrating, PC claims the party is a bust because he had to buy a new graphics card and upgrade his memory only to find that some of his software and peripherals still are incompatible.

Analysts and customers both agree that these are great new ads because it brings to light several issues with Windows Vista, Apple’s largest competitor, in addition to highlighting successful features of the Mac.
