Apple Inc. chose to debut their first teaser ad for the anticipated iPhone during the 79th Annual Academy Awards last night on ABC.
While the commercial did not satisfy interested consumers with an inside look at the phone, but rather it was directed specifically for the Oscars. The somewhat lengthy ad showed various characters from a diverse genre of films answering the phone with a quick “Hello.” The commercial ended with a blank screen with the words “Hello… Coming in June,” and a picture of the iPhone and that has been seen at MacWorld Conference and on Apple’s website.
In 2006 almost 40 million viewers tuned in the catch the Oscars, so this advertisement was released at a key time to gain attention from all those watchers. The ad was run twice during the three hour event and featured such acclaimed actresses as Lucille Ball answering the phone. This is the first time that the iPhone has been advertised on TV, and hopefully Apple will release a more in depth commercial in the near future.
