There has been a buzz for quite some time that Apple is attempting to create their next big thing, the iPhone, which aims to provide customers with a mobile phone that has the capabilities to access iTunes to download music and videos. Well new reports have surfaced that there is a contract in the works with Cingular Wireless to develop the ever anticipated device.
Assuming the iPhone master plan plays out, Apple will be up against big competition in the cell phone provider industry, such as Nokia, Motorola and Ericsson. In recent months a number of cell phone carriers have provided customers with ways to download and listen to music from their mobile phone. So where is all the interest in having your music in the palm of your hand coming from? It will come as no surprise that the interest is coming from a leading technological country: Japan. More than a third of cell phone users in Japan download music to their phones rather than any other music player.
What does the future hold for Apples cell phone integration plans? Unfortunately their past is already haunting them, just a few weeks ago Motorola announced that all further production of their cell phone the ROKR, which offered iTunes, would be terminated due to poor sales figures.
